To carry on with annual festive tradition, residents within The Fremantle Trust Older Peoples Services gathered together to taste and admire the wonderful, delicious Christmas Cake Creations.
The residents across the organisation began their bake off earlier in the autumn by designing, baking and regularly feeding their cakes with brandy, sherry or whisky to enhance the flavour and keep them moist. Once the cakes were decorated they were then delivered to this year’s host home Icknield Court in Princes Risborough for judging by Developmental Chef Manager.
As the tasting and judging got underway, the event was streamed to all the services that were each enjoying a lavish afternoon tea.
A difficult decision was made when it came to picking the winners in the two categories of ‘Best Decorated/Most Creative’ and ‘Best Tasting’. Once the decision had been made, the homes waited in anticipation as the winners and runner ups were announced .with Fremantle Court winning ‘Best Decorated/ Most Creative’ and Lewin House as runner up. Sir Aubrey Ward winning ‘Best Tasting and runner up Mulberry Court.
Jude Watts commented: “It was a very difficult decision to make as all the residents had worked so hard. The cakes were very well made and tasted delicious”.
Sue Faulkner, Lifestyle and Wellbeing Manager added “this was the 8th year we’ve run the competition and the cakes get better each year. Baking increases general wellbeing of Older people, it relieves stress, improves the appetite and encourages social creativity”
