Nominated by Colleagues, residents and family members  for the prestigious, ‘Care Employee Award’, at the 24th National Care Awards 2022 event, - Francisco Paes,  was the proud winner of care employee of the year at a glittering awards ceremony on the 1st December at the prestigious ‘Athena’ in Leicester.

The event was hosted by Emmerdale actor Dean Andrews and showcased the most outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations in our Sector, nominated for any number of 21 categories in which Lent Rise House was also a finalist for ‘Best Outdoor Environment’.

Prior to the event attended by Hazel, Francisco and Michelle Dean, Wellbeing Co-ordinator, and staff member Taffi . Hazel submitted details of how residents at Lent Rise benefit daily from Francisco’s total commitment and dedication to understanding their individual needs, wishes and choices to provide the support which embraces uniqueness and enhances lives to allow them to live their lives to the full, this was the contributing factor that stood Francisco out from the other finalist his commitment to person centred care.

Another important factor is the value of accessible gardens and having gained recognition – Lent Rise House was the overall winner of annual gardening competition ‘The Fremantle Trust in Bloom’ 2022 for their entry, which featured upcycled flower beds using car tyres and a wooden cradle. Hazel and the Team acknowledge that it’s a known fact from input from residents and research evidence, the opportunity to connect with the natural world is paramount to the health and wellbeing of care home residents and contact with nature reduces stress, and mental fatigue, promotes blood flow, and bolsters mood. The garden project led by Wellbeing Co-ordinators and supported by care teams with involvement from residents, starts in April and continues into July / August, culminating in a special awards ceremony hosted by one of the Older Persons Services and attended by representatives including residents from each location.
