For going above and beyond for residents in his care, Housekeeper Paul Bond of The Heights is one of the winners in the Caring Times Care Homes Heroes 2022 Awards Competition in association with Ontex.

To highlight and reward the great work that people working in care homes do, publication Caring Times invited the care industry to nominate their care home hero for a special award. After much deliberation within the home, Paul Bond was submitted to the publication for his work in keeping resident Rod’s love of fishing alive. 

After detailed discussion and discovering a mutual interest, Paul Bond made significant arrangements for Roderick Smith to have a day out fishing. This included finding a place suitable to Rod’s wheelchair and walking frame, getting the right bait, making arrangements with his daughter, obtaining a fishing licence and much more.

Paul commented: “I could see that Rod had a great time. He loved being back by the water with his fishing rod in hand. He was very grateful to both Care Worker Bernard and I and thanked us both profusely. It gave me a lump in my throat to know that we’d helped fulfil his dream to fish again.”

On hearing the news, Blesson Thomas Home Manager of The Heights commented: “We are thrilled that Paul has received this award. He goes above and beyond and he truly deserves it.”  

Caring Times will feature Paul and his story in a full page editorial in the September issue of the publication.

The Caring Times Care Home Hero Award Competition was set up to highlight those in care homes who are always ready to go the extra mile. Thousands of people work behind the scenes in a care home environment and this award enables employers to reward these individuals for the impact they make in their place of work.
