In the lead up to the festive season, care homes across The Fremantle Trust have been working on a 2022 calendar and Christmas card artwork, using beautiful artwork created by the residents.

Created as part of the National Day of Arts in Care Homes Day in September, and in honour of being shortlisted for three NAPA Member Activity Awards, each home was given a calendar month together with a large square canvas and asked to create a piece of artwork inspired by that particular month. The activities team encouraged residents and care staff to discuss what their month meant to them and asked for this to be translated into a unique piece of collaborative artwork. These pieces of art now feature on a 2022 calendar and selection of Christmas cards.

Throughout October, the canvas’ were exhibited at Fremantle Court for residents and families to admire, before being taken back to the home where they were created and proudly displayed for all to admire.

The December month design, which was produced by residents at Mulberry Court, has been used to create four individual Christmas cards, which will be sold as a pack of 4 and are available to purchase at each of our homes.

Lifestyle and Community Manager Sue Faulkner commented: “The residents loved making the artwork and being able to express themselves. The benefits are easy to see, social interaction, enhanced motor skills, improved cognitive function, and all while having fun and reminiscing. They are thrilled that their work has been made into a calendar and Christmas cards for others to enjoy too”

All proceeds from the sales of these cards will be added to The Fremantle Trust’s Wishes & Dreams initiative.
