Carey Lodge welcomed more than 40 scooter enthusiasts as part of a special summer rally, which prompted nostalgia among residents with a penchant for scooters and motorbikes.

The popular event was first set up four years ago by the Trust’s leisure and lifestyle manager, Sue Faulkner, in partnership with Peter Westcott, who is a member of the Tin Soldiers Club and an administrator at the Wing-based care home.

The gathering included riders from a range of scooter clubs, including the Tin Soldiers, Buzzards, Urban Pirates and Red Kites. It was a particular hit with residents Derek Brown and June Bates, who both have fond memories of riding scooters.

Derek, who comes from Aylesbury, owned a Kawasaki ZZR and travelled across the UK and Europe when he was younger. The rally sparked memories for him of a youth spent riding around Haddenham with his mates.

June Bates said:

It was great to see all the souped up scooters and it took me back to days riding on the back of my husband’s Lambretta down the coast to Blackpool.

Commenting on the scooter rally, Sue Faulkner added:

The event has really taken off. This year we attracted a record number of scooter aficionados who not only showcased their bikes but took time to chat to residents. It was a lovely day, bringing lots of smiles and fond memories!
