The Fremantle Trust is helping people to feel more informed and at ease when it comes to making decisions about care for a loved one, with a free event taking place at Finchley Bowling Club on Thursday 16th March called Conversations about Care.

The event will feature a line-up of speakers who provide a range of services for older people, with representatives from Dementia Club UK, Barnet Carers and care fee specialist, Symponia.

The Trust’s dementia care expert, Jill Conroy, will provide an overview of the dementia journey and an insight into the specialist, person-centred care provided across its older people’s services in North London.

Lisa Rutter will talk about how Dementia Club UK has helped to provide a better quality of life for those living with dementia and their carers, friends and families and Hastie Harrower from Barnet Carers Centre will bring to the fore the different perspectives of what it means for the carer as well as the person being cared for.

Information on how care may be funded will also be highlighted at the event, with Rabeya Islam from Symponia providing helpful guidance on approaching care fee planning.

With an ageing population and an increase in the prevalence of dementia in the UK, The Fremantle Trust is keen to provide impartial advice to local families to help them navigate care choices and be empowered with appropriate knowledge and insights.

Commenting on the event, Jo Head, director of services for older people from the Trust said:

“We are aware that families can be easily overwhelmed and confused about how to find the most appropriate care for their loved ones. Conversations about Care is an event that has been set up to enable people to learn more about the types of support that can be accessed for older people, including those living with dementia, with the help of a range of experienced speakers. As a free event running from 2pm to 6pm, it’s designed to be really accessible and welcoming and we hope to see a great turnout!”
