The annual dog show at The Heights care home went off with a bark this year! Residents, family and staff were invited to bring their dogs to compete for the title of ‘Best in Show’ at Scrufts.

Competing dogs were challenged to various obedience tests, including walk to heel, sit and stay, and an obstacle course. There was even a category for the shiniest coat, to give the most mischievous pups a chance to win!

The winner for each category received a goodie bag from Jollyes Pet Superstore in High Wycombe.

Pixie the Chihuahua, Stitch and Biscuit gave it their all, but this year, Dixie the border Cairn Terrier, owned by resident Marion’s family, took home first place - an announcement that received a massive round of a-paws!

The Scrufts competition is always a thoroughly enjoyed day for residents, as they spend time with friends, family, and their beloved pets. Plus, everyone gets really enthusiastic and competitive as the dogs show off their best tricks.

Sue Faulkner, Lifestyle and Wellbeing manager, said ‘Events in our care homes that include pets are extremely beneficial to our residents, encouraging social interaction and physical activity, not to mention lots of smiles and laughter. This annual event is enjoyed by everyone including the dogs’

As this year’s Scrufts come to an end, the dogs and their owners can take some time off before they get training for next year!
