On Saturday 30 April, Chesham Leys care home gave a warm welcome to a local contemporary dance school who performed for the residents in honour of International Day of Dance.

With the garden a perfect stage on a sunny day, the girls of Maggie Monk School of Dancing presented an impressive arrangement of contemporary ballet routines set to modern music which resulted in countless beaming smiles from the residents.

Throughout the 30 minute set, the residents were in awe of the dancers, particularly Paul Rasinskey, who was a professional ballroom dancer in his younger years. When asked what he thought of the dancers, Paul commented: “They are really talented; it’s wonderful to see such a passion for dance at such a young age. These girls have bright dance futures ahead of them.”

Chesham Leys Activity Coordinator Lisamarie Spain commented: “We are lucky enough to have an incredibly supportive community in Chesham who are always eager to get involved in any way they can, so we were thrilled when The Maggie Monks School of Dance came to visit. Not only does dance provide wonderful entertainment, it also offers a chance for reminiscing about days gone by. A different range of activities allows our residents to experience the old, the new and everything in between.”

Set up by Maggie Monk in 1984, Maggie Monk School of Dancing is a professional and friendly dance school based in Chesham and Hyde Heath in Buckinghamshire. The school has gone from strength to strength and Chesham Leys looks forward to welcoming them again.
