As part of the National Day of Arts in Care Homes and in honour of being shortlisted for three NAPA Member Activity Awards 2021, the Leisure and Lifestyles team formalised a plan to create a Trust-wide artistic project.
Earlier in the year, each home was given a calendar month together with a large square canvas with the aim of creating a piece of artwork inspired by that month. The activities team encouraged residents and care staff to discuss what their month meant to them and asked for this to be translated into a unique, piece of collaborative artwork.
Each of the canvas’ is now displayed as one whole gallery at Fremantle Court until Friday 1 October for home residents and their families to admire. The artwork will then be taken back to the individual homes and used to create a 2022 calendar and made available for sale within the local communities. All proceeds from the calendar sales will be used to contribute to the residents ‘Wishes and Dreams’ - an initiative set up by Sue Faulkner, Lifestyle & Community Manager.
Ewa Banaszcyk, Leisure and Lifestyle Team Manager commented; “This project had a great response from the residents and they are looking forward to displaying their artwork in their homes and receiving their calendars.”
The National Day of Arts in Care Homes is an annual event that helps promote the importance of art and creativity in care settings, and how beneficial the outcomes are for all the participants.
