My Time

Learning Disability images

My Time is a new service providing people who have learning disabilities with personalised support to participate in meaningful and enjoyable activities of their choice.   It's all about providing people with customised programmes with an emphasis on using local communities and which enable them to evolve their life skills in order to lead fulfilling lives.

Greater Choices and More Opportunities

Previously people have often had to take what was on offer and there has been very little choice with more conventional services. Personal choice is central to the ethos of Fremantle’s My Time service. It’s all about fitting activity to the person and not the person to an activity. My Time offers people new choices and greater opportunities.

Individually Tailored Programmes

Staff work with My Time members to devise tailored programmes of activities - which each member has aspired to and selected for themselves.

Staff are based at the My Time Hub (in Bedford town centre) from where they research and facilitate the development of each person’s individual programme.  However, most of their time is spent out and about within the local community.  Staff work on a one-to-one basis:

  • To build an understanding of each member’s likes and dislikes and what he or she wants to achieve
  • To offer members the opportunity to explore new interests
  • To overcome any obstacles in the way of members pursuing their interests
  • Promoting safety whilst maintaining appropriate individual levels of independence
  • Supporting members each time they undertake any activity, if necessary
  • Monitoring and reviewing outcomes and levels of satisfaction in order to continually improve each person’s service

The Hub provides facilities such as computers with internet access and audio visual equipment.  Where demand exists for small group sessions these are also arranged.  As the service expands into other areas it is envisaged that more ‘Hubs’ will be created to meet new needs.

Integrating with the Wider Community

One of the main service aims is to support people to become involved with and make a contribution to their local communities.

The team also researches and identifies choices and opportunities available from other sources, and helps members participate in these.

Availability

My Time programmes are available to anyone with a personal budget, or to Local Authorities commissioning services. If you wish to discuss your individual requirements, please contact Andy Bedwell on 01234 215189.
