Jonathan
Carer, Home for Older People

I began working in a care home because I was thinking about training for a career in Nursing about 5 years ago. I have been working at Winterton House for almost 4 years now and I really enjoy working as part of a team. We get lots of training and support and I am now working towards a Care NVQ.
Many of the people who live here are very frail and need a lot of help and support. I really enjoy feeling that I can help someone get the most from their life. I am the key worker for an 86 year old lady - and this means that I try to make sure she gets all the help she needs and that everyone who works here knows what she likes and dislikes. She is very easygoing and we have a lot of fun together.
My job is very busy - there is always something to do - but it is really important to spend time chatting with residents and it is interesting to learn about all the things they have done in their lives. I enjoy caring for people and find my job very interesting and satisfying. I would encourage anyone interested in care to come and join the Fremantle team. They will have the opportunity to do lots of training and gain an NVQ - which will widen their knowledge in care and make the job even more interesting.
