Manager, Home for Older People

I started working in care 13 years ago as a home carer with Social Services. I was initially attracted to work for Fremantle by the career opportunities and because I wanted to be part of a care team, rather than working alone. The opportunity to work in different homes seemed interesting and exciting, and the training provided was a real bonus. I have worked for Fremantle for five years now and have been in my current job just over a year.

I would describe my job as challenging, exciting, fulfilling, fun and very worthwhile. The thing I like best is being part of a close knit team. I look forward to finding ways we can improve our services and enhance the lives of the residents. I like the fact that our home is lively, fun and that most people who visit comment on the happy, homely atmosphere. I do take pride in the quality of services we offer and I really enjoy spending time with residents – chatting, or doing puzzles and crafts. We are always looking for new ideas to make life in care homes more fulfilling and individual for residents.

A career in care is so much more than it first seems. It can be as exciting as you make it. You will be working with like minded people, have a variety of training and development opportunities, be encouraged and supported to gain a nationally recognised qualification and help give residents the kind of care that is needed to provide them with an environment that offers them dignity, respect, stimulation, comfort ...and most important, that feeling of home.
