The Fremantle Trust In-House Staff Agency

In 2008 we took the decision to stop using agency staff in our care homes for older people. The reasoning behind this decision was to ensure continuity of care and the quality of the support we provide to the people who use our services.

To achieve this we set up our own In-House Agency called FreBank. This new function enabled us to offer vacant hours at any home to full-time or part-time staff from within Fremantle, who have registered to be part of FreBank. We also recruit our own bank of Relief staff who can be called upon to fill shifts when staff are off sick, on annual leave or maternity leave.

Relief Staff

We can recruit people to FreBank that individual homes cannot recruit because of the availability of when some people can work. Someone who can’t work weekends but who might be a wonderful carer, cannot be taken on in a full-time or even a part-time role by an individual home because of the need to be fair in allocating shifts. However, such people could be highly successful as a relief care worker, filling in shifts here and there in a flexible manner.

The FreBank Team

FreBank is managed by Sue McLeod with a team of three administrative staff. Sue was a Group Care Leader at Lewin House and has worked in care for over 30 years. She had always combined care work with administrative work and had experience of managing an agency providing care staff. Sue has worked for The Fremantle Trust for eight years.

Training

Training is a vital aspect in the delivery of good care and is carefully planned to meet a variety of learning styles and to be relevant to service needs. Feedback from staff is used to develop training services and ensure these meet learning needs effectively.
